Background
Proctological surgeries (eg, hemorrhoidectomy, fissurectomy, fistula surgery) require effective anesthesia with minimal complications. In rural settings, spinal anesthesia (SA) is common, but pudendal nerve block (PNB) offers potential advantages. This study compares the efficacy, safety, and postoperative outcomes of PNB vs. SA in proctological surgeries in rural Central India. Methods
A prospective comparative study was conducted on 60 patients undergoing elective proctological surgeries, randomized into PNB (n= 30) and SA (n= 30) groups. Primary outcomes were pain scores (VAS at 0, 6, 12, 24 hours), intraoperative hemodynamic stability, and time to first analgesia request. Secondary outcomes included complications (urinary retention, hypotension, headache) and patient satisfaction. Conclusion
PNB is a safe and effective alternative to SA for proctological surgeries in rural settings, offering stable hemodynamics, fewer complications, and better patient satisfaction. Keywords
